Aloha,
This morning at around 10:00 am my mother and brothers set up our fundraiser table in front of enchanted lakes Safeway. The Kailua Mustangs pop warner cheerleaders were also setting up to fundraise. My brother plays soccer for Honolulu bulls and we were scheduled to fundraise at this location today. So we had just as much right as the pop warner cheerleaders to be there fundraising.
We kindly, were set up near the pop warner cheerleaders and fundraising didn't become a problem until another wave of the pop warner cheerleaders came to fundraise. They moved their table in front of ours and we started to get a lot of dirty looks from the girls parents. I had overheard one of the mothers telling customers, "don't buy from them."
As a family who's kids all play sports, fundraising is important to us as well as it is to any family who has children that play sports. In past times other teams would be fundraising in the same area and it never caused a problem. If anything, we'd encourage and help each other fundraise, making new friends.
So we ignored the fact that somehow, fundraising for the kids turned in to some kind of petty competition. Which it SHOULD NOT be. What lead me to write this email is the fact that one of the cheerleaders mothers started to swear and argue with my mother in front of my siblings, customers, and their own kids.
I'm not asking for an apology but for a notice to be sent out to parents who are going to fundraise. We fundraise for the Keiki so that can have better opportunities in the sports they play. As adults, we should act mature and as good examples for our kids. A fundraiser is no place for a competition, save that for game day.
I have never seen a more rude scenario.
