We also had same experience of asking to see a dog three times and on fourth visit told that the dog was adopted over the phone. The family that adopted the dog paid by credit card without ever meeting the dog.
We were told all three times by email and even one phone call that the dog would be there. We now wonder if the picture of this absolutely adorable terrier was a picture of a random dog just to lure us into the store to see other dogs. Buyer beware.

We went to PetSmart on Cascade Ave right at 1:00 PM on Saturday to see a Husky that was up for adoption. He was not there. Yes, I was disappointed but even more so when we were told by the person running the rescue that there are other Huskies out there. That was not the point. We literally had to pry the information out of her to find out that the dog had not yet been neutered and therefore could not be inside the store and it was to hot outside to show him outside. I totally understood that and even though I thought the person was very rude in her tone and her comment I decided to email them Saturday inquiring whether I could meet the dog before the next showing on Thursday from 4 - 7 as I live in the same area as the shelter. I received the following response and was tickled pink..."I am happy to show him to you on Thursday at the Petsmart at 4 pm if you would like that appt please let me know." I responded with "Whew...I almost missed your reply as I was scanning for a different email address. Yes please, I would like the appointment to meet him at Petsmart this Thursday at 4 PM." Well, as you can guess, things didn't go as planned today. Here is what I emailed back today..."I was there today before 4:00 PM. Apparently, two people were there before me and one of them got to adopt the Husky. I was there last Saturday but the Husky was not there as he had not yet been neutered, and it was to hot to have him outside. I went back today for the 4:00 appointment that we agreed to via email but it did not make a difference. It was very disappointing to me and to my kids as well, who were there last Saturday and thankfully not there today. I suggest not asking folks who email you if they would like an appointment if you are not going to keep the appointment. While I was there I was told that each person who wanted to adopt would be spoken to and the best home would be picked but that didn't happen either. The guy who was there to adopt the Husky was not spoken to and I was only asked whether I live in a house or an apt. I was told by the woman who runs the rescue that the dog would probably be back there in a couple weeks as the girl who was adopting him could not handle him. I said that was sad and not good for the dog, and the response I got was that the dog has to learn somehow. That is a terrible attitude to have for someone who is supposed to care for these dogs, and care about getting them in the right home. The whole point is to not have them end up in a shelter again....isn't it? The entire experience was very disheartening. It's experiences like these that make people like me want to buy a dog from a breeder in lieu of going through what my family has gone through to get the dog since last Saturday. I can only hope my comments will make a positive difference." I got the impression that it's just a business and not a way to truly help pair folks with the rescues. She could not be bothered to provide any information and we seriously doubt any credentials as an "Animal Behaviorist". Last Saturday we literally had to keep digging to get more information about whether the dog was still available and when we could see him next. Her tone was very insulting. I would never recommend anyone to All Terrier Rescue in Aloha, OR for adoption.
