Dear Sir/Madam
Voluntary Institute for Rural Development (VIRDisaNon-GovernmentDevelopment organization registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 and FCRA Act 1976. The aim of our organization is to cater developmental services to the rural poor for their all-round development. The most important aspects of the organization are to undertake activities on the basis of the peoples’ need and with their active participation. We are working in Athamallick block of Angul district and Riamala block of Deogarh District in Odisha state of India.
Out of several problems and issues of the area the problems of child labor is very acute who are neglected in all respect like health, education, poverty etc. The children in the age group of 6to 14 years are found engaged in Bidi binding ( Tobacco work), Cow &goat grazing, collection of forest produces, in hotels and so many similar other activities. The health status of these children is deteriorating day by day which leads illiteracy and poverty. Though measures have been taken by the Govt. for the eradication of child labours, but they remain in the pen and paper only.
The literacy rate in the block is 61% out of which male literacy is 54% & female literacy is 38%as against the state avg. of 49%. The literacy rate especially among the girls is preferably low even though the Govt. is lunching several education projects in the state. Difficult terrain, mountainous region and the economic factors are contributing for low literacy rates in this block. Teacher’s absenteeism is the major cause for non-functioning of different-literacy projects and education schemes of the Govt.
There are around 500 children in the age group of 6-14 years are engaged in various works, 50% of which are girls. Upon interaction with these children they have expressed their keen interest for study in schools, but looking into the economic condition of their family they are bound to do such works. Some of the parents expressed their views that though they send their children to the village school but due to the poor quality of education and absence of the school teacher they drop out from the middle.
There is urgent need to bring back these drop-out and Non-school going children to the mainstream of education. Hence, we request you to kindly support us in our endeavor. VIRD would like to be partner of your organization and establish a school & vocational training for the children’s.
Kindly send us the detailed guidelines for developing the project proposal. Anticipating to your response.
With regards
Yours Sincerely
Namita Satapathy
