This is a trust for a charitable foundation about which little is known. It is the largest charitable trust in the area. A charitable remainder trust functions as a way to distribute funds to charitable organizations after the initial beneficiary is no longer eligible to receive funds from the trust. In the United States individuals use charitable trusts to leave all or a portion of their estate to charity when they die. This allows for philanthropic purposes to be satisfied, while creating certain tax benefits that shield the fund. It can be a way for parents to leave funds for a disabled child without jeopardizing the availability of public funds for the care and treatment of the child. There are many reasons for this type of trust, and many ways to arrange the payments to a beneficiary, to the charitable organizations, and what to do with the remainder of the fund. That such a substantial amount remains in this fund leads me to believe that there has not yet been a final distribution, if in fact the fund is set-up to have a an end date.
